The two versions, who each is built for, and how to pick.
SparcBooks Basic is a complete accounting package: AI-powered accounting, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and invoicing, budgeting, bank reconciliation, financial reporting, dashboards, recurring transactions, and audit trail and controls. SparcBooks includes all of that and adds fund accounting, multi-dimensional accounting, advanced reporting and analysis, and multi-entity support. The dividing line is funds: if you have to track money by purpose and report on it, you want SparcBooks.
Small businesses and other organizations that want a full-featured accounting package without paying what the incumbents charge for one. You get real double-entry accounting with the ledger, payables, receivables, budgeting, reconciliation and reporting you would expect — plus an AI that does the data entry — at $25 CAD per month on a yearly plan.
Associations, nonprofits, charities, churches and religious organizations, and self-managed HOAs and condo associations — plus the accounting and bookkeeping firms that serve them. These organizations receive money that is restricted, designated or held in reserve, and general-purpose accounting software has nowhere proper to put it. It is $49 CAD per month on a yearly plan.
Ask whether anyone ever needs an answer to "how much is left in that particular pot?" — a building fund, a reserve fund, a grant, a program budget, a designated donation. If the answer is yes, and today it lives in a spreadsheet beside your accounting software, you need fund accounting. If your organization has one pot of money, you do not.
No. Basic is a complete set of books — it is not a trial tier or a feature-limited teaser. What the higher plan adds is fund accounting and the multi-dimensional reporting that goes with it, which most small businesses have no use for. If you do not need funds, you are not missing anything by staying on Basic.
Yes. The AI experience is in both versions — you type what you want and SparcBooks does it. It is the way you use the software, not an add-on.
Yes. You can move between SparcBooks Basic and SparcBooks, so you are not locked in by the version you pick at the start. If you are unsure, start your free 30 days on whichever looks closer and tell us during onboarding.
